St. Clair Shores ‘Touch a Truck’ Brings Community Together at Library.

Must read

What kid wouldn’t want to sit behind the wheel of a large truck or a police car? For one day, that dream was realized at the St. Clair Shores Public Library’s Touch a Truck event (located at 22500 East Eleven Mile Road, St. Clair Shores, MI.) This annual event brings together kids of all ages and a parade of iconic machines for a single day.

The “Touch a Truck” event was held on August 11, 2026, at the St. Clair Shores Library. At the event many different types of trucks were showcased for everyone to see. The public could see and get behind the wheel of one of the many vehicles on display.

At the event, local emergency services were present at the St. Clair Shores Public Library’s “Touch a Truck” event. The fire department had on display one of their massive fire engines, accompanied by the vital battalion chief’s SUV. Just as important was the presence of the St. Clair Shores Police Department patrol vehicle. Kids received badge stickers. All the vehicles were open for the public to see and get behind the wheel.

The event went beyond the showcase of vehicles for the public to see. On full display was the winning trophy from the St. Clair Shores Police Department’s Guns and Hoses charity softball game trophy. (The game was held on August 8, 2026, at Kyte Monroe Park, and sponsored by the Optimist Club of St. Clair Shores.)

Other vehicles on display at the “Touch a Truck” event included a flatbed tow truck from “Official Towing,” a St. Clair Shores bucket truck, and a dump truck. There were a variety of vehicles for the public to see and get behind the wheel and blow the horn.

During the event, the “Friends of the St. Clair Shores Public Library” were there as well. Giving away kids and young adult books to the public. The group would ask for a donation. All the money raised at the “Touch a Truck” event will go to help the St. Clair Shores Library. The group just purchased for the library a new book return box so patrons can drive up and drop off their returned books instead of getting out of their car.

If you would like to help the “Friends of the St. Clair Shores Public Library,” they are having a fundraiser at Leo’s Coney Island (23815 Jefferson, St. Clair Shores, MI—this location only) on August 13, 2026, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. A portion of all sales generated that evening will be donated to help support the St. Clair Shores Public Library remodeling needs.

Adding to the St. Clair Shores Public Library’s “Touch a Truck” event was its closest neighbor, the Selinsky-Green Farmhouse Museum. Visitors could stop by the museum and explore the farmhouse history. It’s a place where people can step back in time and see how people lived in the time period of the 1800s.

The backyard of the museum hosted the bubble area for the kids and the older kids to play in. Buckets of soapy water and wands were available for people to make bubbles, big or small. From the crowd of kids, it appeared to be a hit with the visitors.

The St. Clair Shores Public Library’s “Touch a Truck” event is a beloved annual event. From climbing into a massive fire engine to enjoying the quiet and fun history at the museum, it remains a great way that St. Clair Shores brings its community together for a wonderful day of discovery.
